Everything we used in our Ford Transit campervan conversion
There’s no fluff here, just a list of everything we used to convert our 2006 Jumbo Ford Transit into our getaway home on wheels.
Part 1 - Preparation
A lot of non-toxic cleaners (We liked Method)
Wire brushes and Hammerite metal paint to seal off any previous damage(the previous owner screwed into the floor of the van, leaving holes that could rust)
Rivet gun (to fill in said holes in the floor)
Reflectix aluminum vapour barrier thermal insulation for the sub-floor
Wool insulation from Celtic Sustainables but similar is available elsewhere
Roofing batten for the sub-floor and to frame the ceiling (making it easier to screw tongue and groove to)
9mm Structural plywood for the walls and floor (12mm in some places)
Self-tapping metal screws (for anywhere we were screwing directly into the van metal) various lengths
Four-way stretch felt (Four-way is easier to apply)
Contact adhesive spray - a lot!
Tiger Seal (for sealing the fan)
Part 2 - Plumbing and cooking
Sink (Single bowl, deep. Probably bigger than needed to be but has been great for washing up)
25-litre grey water tank portable (under the sink)
Fresh water tank (we went for 150 litres which is way more than we need)
Rubber-lined clip clamps (rubber stops slow abrasion of the pipes while driving)
Part 3 - Electrics
Low-profile LED downlights
All-powers portable power station (Ali Express)
LED tape
Dimmer switch
Part 4 - Living space
Mattress - Ikea. Standard Double
Memory foam for the bench seat (Second hand)
Cheap fleece blankets (for bench seat, easier to wash than cushion covers when you have a dog)
Bin (perfect for under the sink, small and easy to empty)
Part 5 - All the extras
Pop-up camping toilet (Not luxury, but necessity!)
